Description

Learn how to properly defrost and brown ground beef for your recipes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (frozen)
  • 1 pinch salt and pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Open up the package of ground beef. Transfer to a suitable sized bowl or shallow dish with a lip.
  2. Put the bowl in the microwave and push your defrost button or set power to 50% for 1 minute.
  3. Break off thawed bits on the edges, removing them and transferring into a dish outside the microwave at this time.
  4. Turn piece over and continue on the defrost setting or at 50% power for 1 minute.
  5. Remove meat, rotate chunk, and add one more minute; that should be enough to defrost to the center. (thicker hunks may need more time)
  6. If it needs longer, remove defrosted pieces again, turn over again, and add another 30 seconds until it is done all the way to the center.
  7. Drain if there is any liquid in the bowl.
  8. Put into a pan and brown meat with salt and pepper from there to use as you wish.

Notes

  • Ensure to monitor the defrosting process to avoid cooking the meat.
  • Always cook defrosted meat immediately.
