- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar (adds balance to the flavor)
- 1/2 cup beef broth or water
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Place a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned (break it apart with a spoon as it cooks).
- Stir in the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook for about 3 minutes until softened.
- Add tomato sauce, ketchup, tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar. Stir well so everything blends smoothly.
- Sprinkle in chili powder, paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper. Stir slowly so the spices spread evenly.
- Lower the heat and let the chili simmer for about 20 minutes (stir occasionally so it does not stick). The mixture should become thick and rich.
- Spoon the warm chili over grilled or steamed hot dogs and enjoy.
Notes
- You can use ground turkey instead of beef if you prefer a lighter option.
